WIND Turbine Construction. August 2009 The following pictures show the construction progress to completion of a vertical axis wind turbine, otherwise known as a Darius Windmill. This 3000 watt producing turbine was erected at the New Bedford Regional Vocational High School in conjunction with Acela Energy and Siemens Technology. Students at the school will complete the wiring of control panels. At lower wind speeds, Darius Windmills produce more power than conventional windmills while running almost silently. Smaller, residential rooftop models are available in this type of turbine.
